Despite a light drizzle of rain, it was another great turnout for the Lime Springs Car & Motorcycle show which took place at the Sweet Corn Days celebration Aug. 8 and 9. A total of 46 units entered in the event, featuring many motorcycles and beautiful classic cars. Trophies were presented to the top three in each class, and two “overall” awards were also presented.

Earning the “People’s Choice” award as voted by anyone looking at the vehicles, it was close with three cars in the running. However, when all was said-and-done, it was Delbert and Lela Ihns of Lime Springs taking the honor with a teal 1964 Pontiac Bonneville.

Taking the “Driver’s Choice” honor, which is voted on by only the drivers who entered a unit in the show, was John Eisele, from Bloomington, Minn. with a teal 1959 Cadillac Coupe.

Dick Gates participated in the Tractor Pull.

Despite the warm weather, the Lime Springs Antique Tractor Pull on Saturday, August 8 attracted 84 pullers. The event keeps gaining more tractors. In 2006, the event hit a low of only 53 pulls with 63 in 2007 and 71 in 2008. If it keeps gaining 10 a year, by the Sesquicentennial in 2018 it may be a three-day event!

Chris Bowen was again the instigator of the pull, which featured tractors from 4,500 to King of the Hill (over 15,500) pounds. Dale Schwade and A&K allowed the scales to be used for weighing in the tractors and Darla Gragert kept the crowd entertained and informed by announcing the pull.
