Summer plans underway for LS Community Club

With warm weather just around the corner, the Lime Springs Community Club has started making plans for the summer.

• The first project is the Mother’s Day Salad Luncheon. The luncheon is May 7. Fran Johnson and family will be putting on a presentation about Vietnam. Workers and salads are still appreciated. Anyone interested can call Dorene Burnikel.

• Dennis Langreck and family are waiting for a nice day to sandblast the ground planters outdoors. With weather not permitting, it will be done inside.

• The Lime Springs Children’s Theatre Troupe is temporarily storing their equipment in the club’s trailer.

• Since the club has become a 501-c3 non-profit organization it is required to get its own gambling license and file a tax return if proceeds are over $50,000. Treasurer Jill Johnson said luckily we don’t have to worry about a tax return since that is far over what the club makes in a year.

• Burnikel, who was in charge of the Farmer’s Market last year, is asking for a volunteer to be in charge this year.

• Committee chairmen for Sweet Corn Days were chosen.

~ Curt Tienter, who is in charge of entertainment, has that part under control.

“Pam (Burnikel) said she would do the Talent Show again on Friday night.”

Mike McAbee will be playing on Saturday afternoon from 3:00-5:30 p.m. “if they’re not having a baby,” he joked. From 5:30-7:30 Rich Jones and other members of his group of Cowboy Church players will perform. The street dance band, from 8:00-midnight, will again be Lost Faculties, who had good reviews last year.

Curt and Linda Gjere are booked for Brown Park on Sunday afternoon.

~ T-shirts and koozies will be purchased before Sweet Corn Days.

~ Dustin Kraft is in charge of the softball tournament this year. The food stand will be run by the five city groups: pool, park, fire department, community center and library—with proceeds divided between them.

Johnson said, “There was no hesitation on anyone’s part to participate.”

A meeting of those five groups will be held before the next Community Club meeting, at 6:30 p.m. on May 16.

The regular Community Club meeting will start at 7:00 with Evelyn Truka bringing treats.
