June Johnson, 93, Lime Springs

June Johnson, 93, of Harmony, Minn. died Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Harmony Health Care Center.

June was born on June 2, 1918 in Harmony to Edith and Arthur (Artie) Johnson. She attended and graduated from Harmony High School. On February 7, 1942 she married her high school sweetheart, Donald Arlow Johnson. To this union three children were born. After Arlow was discharged from the service in 1945, they returned to Harmony for approximately a year before moving to Lime Springs, Iowa and becoming the proprietors of the café there. A couple years later they returned to the Harmony area to farm. In 1953, they bought a store in Lime Springs, and went into business running Johnson’s Sundries. June enjoyed working in the store and loved visiting with her customers and friends at the coffee counter.

June also loved music, singing and dancing. She was a soloist when she was younger, and was a member of the church choir and community choir. She and Arlow enjoyed traveling. June was an active member in the American Legion Auxiliary with over 50 years membership. She also was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and served as Worthy Matron. June actively supported Arlow in his many endeavors, especially being involved in community events while living in Lime Springs. She and Arlow were members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church while in Lime Springs.

In 2007 June and Arlow moved to Heritage Grove assisted living in Harmony and renewed their membership at Greenfield Lutheran Church. Toward the end of 2009 Arlow suffered a stroke and was moved to Harmony Healthcare where he spent the remainder of his life. He died January 22, 2010. June remained at Heritage Grove and loved visiting with the many high school friends who also resided there. She had a very sharp mind for dates, names and how people were related, and she enjoyed their many discussions. On April 5, 2011 June fell and fractured her clavicle. She was placed in the Harmony Healthcare for therapy and to recuperate. However, her health continued to decline until her death July 10, 2011.

Survivors include her two daughters, Betty (Chuck) Wilson of Naples, Fla. and Nancy (Terry) Miller of Lime Springs and her daughter-in-law, Francis (Donald) Johnson of LeRoy, Minn.; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and her brother Norman (Dorothy) Johnson of Harmony.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald ‘Arlow’ Johnson; her son, ‘Donald’ Arlow Johnson; her parents; two brothers; and her sister.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony. Burial was in Greenfield Cemetery.
