2011 Fair Ribbon Auction grosses over $33,000

The 4-H and FFA ribbon auction at the 2011 Mighty Howard County Fair grossed $33,775 for the county youth this year. The average was $276.84 for the 122 ribbons sold. This is compared to 2010 when 115 ribbons were sold averaging $190.83.

• There were 45 buyers. The highest ribbon bids were as follows:

Dairy ribbon for Trevor Malven bought for $550 by George Malven

Rabbit ribbon for Myranda Bartels for $375 bought by Wacha Insurance

Poultry ribbon for Myranda Bartels for $325 bought by Wacha Insurance

Horse ribbon for Lindsey Anderson for $500 bought by Crop Production Services

Beef ribbon for Austin Haskovec for $750 bought by Koshatka Farm Equipment

Sheep ribbon for Brady Foster for $250 bought by Farmer’s Feed and Grain

Swine ribbon for Brynn Bodermann for $500 bought by Max Schmidt

Local auctioneers were Dick Ollendieck, Dean Eastman, Richard Shindelar, Bud McCarville, John Anderson and Wayne Mlady. Les Opat, Ryan Eastman, Mike Adams, Lyle Eastman and others helped in the ring and with the livestock. Other volunteers were parents and those who helped prepare for the auction

A 15 percent commission of $5,066.25 goes to general funds of 4-H and FFA in the county for youth activities and fair auction expenses.
