Comm. Club preparing for Sweet Corn Days

The Sweet Corn Days T-Shirts are in! They can be purchased at Lime Springs Feed & Equipment before the celebration or at the ticket booth during the weekend of August 12-14.

Plans are moving forward for the 30th annual Sweet Corn Days on August 12-14. The Community Club, which sponsors the town festival, met on July 18 to make sure events and all the little details were taken care of.

It was reconfirmed that a couple Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders will be selling some products on Sunday after the parade on Main Street. C US Bank is sponsoring the event.

Four different people were called to try to get someone to chair the Volleyball Tournament and as of meeting time, nobody had stepped up, so the tournament will probably not be held this year. It is hoped work schedules will allow a chairman next year to continue the long held event.

Pam Burnikel is organized for the Talent Contest and is just waiting on contestants. They can call her at 563-547-3793 (home) or 563-547-3624 (work).

Holly Kitchen will be getting windows painted in the next week or so with pictures of raccoons enjoying sweet corn.

This year, Steve Davis will be bringing two teams of horses for cart rides after the parade on Sunday.

The older generation may remember Pokey Pete giving free train rides for the kids on Sweet Corn Sunday. Pete has long since retired, but last year a train was available on Saturday and Sunday and was a big hit, so the club is having it again this year.

A portable microphone and speaker has been purchased by the club for announcements throughout the weekend and at other events.

In other business, it was mentioned how nice VanderBie Park looks after several volunteers pulled weeds and trimmed the bushes. Arnie DeRuiter said a load of mulch has been donated.

Carla Moser said the bake sale for the five city entities has made about $300 this year during the Farmers Market. The goodies have been selling out right away so more baked items are needed. Anyone wishing to donate can call Moser or Doreen Burnikel. The proceeds will be split between the pool, parks, fire department, community center and library.

Look for more on Sweet Corn Days in the coming weeks.

The next meeting will be on August 8 at 7:00, right before the celebration, to make sure everything is okay.
