James Sutton, 45, Maquoketa

James D. “Jamie” Sutton, 45, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died Thursday evening, September 1, 2011, as a result of a boating accident in Dubuque, Iowa.

James Daniel Sutton was born November 9, 1965, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of James Sterling Sutton and Donna Jean (Hovey) Sutton. He graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1984 and graduated from Kirkwood Community College in the Ag Production Program in 1986.

He married Johnna Ihns on July 25, 1987 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. Jamie farmed the family farms. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa, and a former member of the Jackson County Cattlemen’s Association. Jamie was a wonderful friend and neighbor, always willing to help.

Jamie is survived by his wife, Johnna Sutton of Maquoketa; three children, Isaac Sutton of Calmar and Erica and Evan Sutton, at home; was a special father figure to his niece, Alesha; his mother, Donna Jean Sutton of Maquoketa; one sister, Jody Kay Sutton of Dubuque; and his paternal grandmother, Florence Sutton of Maquoketa.

He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandparents, paternal grandfather, and his father-in-law.

A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate his life was held on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, with the Rev. Donald Hertges and Deacon Bob Head officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa.
