PATT meets for Sept.

President Shannon Reis chairs the first PATT meeting of the year at LS-C Elementary.

PATT (Parents And Teachers Together) met for the first time of the new school year on September 1 to make plans for the beginning of the new school year.

Kindergarten teacher Lois Leifeld thanked the group helping with the ice cream at the elementary’s open house before school started. “It went smoothly.”

Some events coming up include helping with the book fair during conferences on October 24 and 27; having a used book drive in the spring; and working on collecting box tops, milk lids and soup labels. Friday, October 21 was set as the Fall Festival where the group will help with the different centers the students attend (including tye dye, which went over really well last year).

President Shannon Reis suggested having a different person in charge of each event so that no one person will be overwhelmed.

The Master Gardeners and others will be asked to help with weeding the flower and butterfly gardens in back.

Principal Todd Knobloch gave some updates from an administration point of view. “All the parent-teacher groups in the district are covered under the district’s insurance.” There will be signs placed in the playground area restricting owners from walking their pets on school grounds due to health reasons.

Knobloch said he wanted to get a committee together to find a good place to put the new playground. “We were lucky to receive two grants for the basketball play area.” He also wants to have a cement walk from the school to the play area for wet and snowy times of the year.

In conjuction with weeding the flower garden, he said, “I’d like to put up signs that say what kind of flower or tree it is.”

The next meeting will be Thursday, October 6 at 6:30 p.m. when new officers will be elected.
