Her book, “Cy Thomson—The Generous Embezzler” took nearly 20 years for her to compile. She admits she had a lot of help from others along her journey.

It all started right after she and hubby purchased the Lime Springs Herald and LeRoy Independent 19 years ago. A lover of history, she had a party to commemorate a cyclone that hit the LeRoy area 100 years ago.

Little did she know she would learn so much more about LeRoy history after that party. It was there she heard the first whispers about the area’s most infamous thief.

Local boy Cy Thomson had worked his way up in the Hormel Company to head of finances, which allowed him to embezzle nearly $1.2 million.

Evans talked to more folks and did some research and found an old journal Thomson had written. Over the years, she wrote articles for the newspapers. She was urged by those who read the incredible articles to put them into book form and she finally accomplished her goal this summer as the book was published.

On September 24, she will tell her own story, read a few lines and sign copies of her book, which will be on sale that day.
