Chester PIP has meeting

With fall in the air, it is time for the Chester Partners in Progress to start planning for fall and winter events.

The first event members will be part of is the Fall Festival, scheduled for October 8 at the Community Center. The group will again have a Halloween Coloring and Pumpkin Decorating Contests. They are always a big hit with the kids and parents (who can shop without little ones spying on them!). They will be holding the contests from 10:00-1:30.

Christmas in Chester will take place on Saturday, December 10 with a backup date of December 17. The That’s My Pan fund-raiser will continue through Christmas, so pans and other items will be on display.

Master Gardeners worked with PIP for a grant for beautification in Chester. President Dawn Fairbanks said the blocks were ordered and delivered. The blocks will be used for landscaping at the north and south entrance signs.

Spiff Slifka of Howard County Business and Tourism made a few announcements about the BBQ contest and also about sharing the Old Settlers weekend with Ridgeway, which also has its celebration that weekend. Perhaps one would have it on Saturday and the other town would have it on Sunday. The towns are basically pulling people away from each other.

The group held its annual meeting and kept officers the same until the next annual meeting. Dawn Fairbanks stays on as president, Linda Warnke as vice-president and Pam Wendel as secretary/treasurer. The next meeting will be Wednesday, October 12, at Chester City Hall.
