Wallace Ihns, 73, Lime Springs

Wallace Roger Ihns, 73, of Lime Springs, Iowa, passed away September 28, 2011, at the Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids, Minn.

He was born June 18, 1938, to Walter and Emma (Austin) Ihns of rural Lime Springs. He was the youngest of four children. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lime Springs. He attended rural country school through the eighth grade, attended Lime Springs High School for one year and later received his GED.

On September 2, 1961, he married Edith Ann Betten at Rushford Lutheran Church in Rushford, Minn. Together they farmed the family farm, raising crops and livestock, along with raising four children.

Wallace enjoyed the farm life and being outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, going to farm auctions, and he looked forward to pheasant and deer hunting with his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family and friends, reading and watching old movies.

Wallace is survived by his four children, Kathy (Lavern) Lansing, Fort Atkinson, Iowa, Walter Ihns, Lime Springs, Karla Ihns, St. James, Minn. and Kay Ihns, Lime Springs; three granddaughters, Amanda Lansing, Altoona, Iowa, Heidi (Jason) Meyer, Fort Atkinson and Leann Kleppe, Cresco, Iowa; five great-grandchildren, Damon, Riley, Kaydn, Kara and James; two sisters, Margie Snyder, Spring Valley, Minn. and Wanda (Mervin) Isaacson, Riceville, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wallace was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Emma (Austin) Ihns; his wife, Edith Ihns on November 18, 2008; and his father and mother-in-law, Emil and Agnes (Woxland) Betten.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lime Springs. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, October 3, 2011, at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, and also one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Pastor Maureen Hagen will officiate the service. Wallace’s wishes were to be cremated and a private family burial will take place at a later date at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs.
