Niece, aunt give gift of hair

Savannah Roberts and Aunt Rita Roberts gave to Locks of Love over the holiday season.

Each of the four years of high school, Rita Roberts gives her nieces (nephews aren’t quite old enough yet) a special gift for their birthdays—a whole day with her.

“I take one niece and the whole day is about them,” said Rita.

Savannah was anticipating her day with Rita and three years ago the duo starting growing out their hair. “Savannah wanted to donate hair to Locks of Love before she turned 16, so we started growing it out.”

So, a few weeks before her 16th birthday on Dec. 10, Savannah and Aunt Rita had their day. They got their hair cut, had pedicures, went shopping and had lunch, but not before spoiling her meal with ice cream first. It’s okay Mom. It’s just Aunt Rita.

Who knows what Savannah will come up with for next year’s birthday, but she has a whole year to think about it.

(Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children. Its mission is to return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children.)
