Listening Posts, Fri., Sat.

After the 2010 Census, the district lines for the Iowa Senate were changed. That leaves incumbents Mary Jo Wilhelm of Cresco and Merlin Bartz of Grafton fighting for District 26. They will both be in the area this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 9-10) to listen to constituents and answer some questions. Bartz will have refreshements at Chester City Hall on Friday at 10:30 and then at Missy’s/Green Jeans at 11:45. Wilhelm will be at the Lime Springs Library on Saturday at 1:00.

Howard County currently sits in District 8 (along with Chickasaw, Winneshiek and Allamakee counties) with Wilhelm as Senator.

The new lines will go into effect with the 2012 election. Size-wise, District 26 is the fourth largest in the state. It will include a lot of territory including, Howard, Chickasaw, Mitchell, Floyd, Worth, parts of Cerro Gordo and Winneshiek counties, not including the cities of Mason City, Clear Lake or Decorah.

(See page four with other locations where the two will be conducting Listening Posts.)
