SA Learning Center soon to reach goal

Construction meeting
Architect Gary Anderson talks to interested parties about the construction of Spring Ahead Learning Center. The facility should be completed mid-December.

As reported in the Lime Springs Herald, on Feb. 21, 2012, the Howard Winneshiek CSD Board of Directors approved Olympic Builders as the general contractor for Spring Ahead Learning Center with a bid of $997,667. The bid is contingent upon approval by the USDA.

In recent months, community members have continued to show their support of SALC with monetary donations. To date, SALC has raised $124,000, putting it just $6,000 away from its fund-raising goal.

Libby Schwade, secretary of SALC committee, states, “Our goal has been $130,000: $100,00 toward the construction of the center and $30,000 for the outfitting of the center. We are so close to that goal.”

SALC’s Winter Gala was a huge success this year. “We continue to be amazed by the success of the Winter Gala. We wanted people to have fun while supporting a great project,” said Schwade. Between the dinner, live auction items, book sales, and donations toward center items, the Gala raised $11,700. In 2011, the fundraising totals were $8,100.

“Our committee continues to be grateful for the support and generosity of the people from this area,” says president of the SALC committee, Jerry Johnson. “Without them, this project would not be where it is. We’re mere months away from having a one-stop drop child care center and FEMA Safe Room in our community. What an asset!” Recent donors include:
