LS ordinance on open burning

Chapter 49.04.5. Recreational Fires. Open fires for cooking, heating, recreation and ceremonies, provided they comply with the limits for emission of visible air contaminants established by the State Department of Natural Resources.

A. The fire shall not be located less than fifty (50) feet from any structure and adequate provisions shall be made to prevent the fire from spreading to within fifty (50) feet of any structure; or

The fire shall be contained in a waste burner located not less than fifteen (15) feet from any structure.

B. All fires shall be constantly attended by a competent person until such fire is extinguished.

C. A garden hose connected to the property’s water supply or other fire extinguishing equipment shall be readily available for use by the person attending the fire.

D. The City’s Fire Chief reserves the right to prohibit any or all back yard burning or outdoor bonfires when atmospheric conditions or local circumstances are determined by the Fire Chief to be hazardous.
