Holiday events planned for Lime Springs area

“No rest for the wicked” as the saying goes can apply to the Lime Springs Community Club. The group got over Sweet Corn Days and turns around to start discussing the next projects—Halloween, Festival of Trees and Christmas in Lime Springs.

It was announced by Marcie Klomp the Halloween party was being cancelled this year due to others having Halloween activities. She explained Chester is having a party on Oct. 27, the elementary school is having a costume party on Oct. 31, and the library is also having a costume party on Halloween afternoon.

When Janet DeVries of Family Fun and Fitness found out the club wasn’t having a party, she decided to have a costume party on Halloween for youth kindergarten through sixth grade.

Festival of Trees will again be held on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Decorated trees will be displayed. Organizations, businesses and individuals are invited to decorate a tree. Call Dorene Burnikel or City Hall to get a spot. A monetary prize will be given to the first-place winner.

Folks can have a light supper and vote on all the beautifully-decorated trees on Nov. 25. Piano music, performed on the baby grand, will be played.

Less than a week later, on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 2 will be Christmas in Lime Springs. The committee is still checking on entertainment for the afternoon, but everything else will be the same, including vendors, Santa and wagon rides.

Butch Burnikel and Klomp are researching a digital sign to go on the corner where the yellow sign now sits. It will be much easier than putting on individuals letters to announce events.

The next meeting will be Monday, Nov. 19 at 7:00 p.m.
