Roberts reaches Eagle Scout

Tom Roberts with his parents, Tony and Rita. Parents are an instrumental part in the success of a Scout attaining Eagle.

Tom Roberts is the crème de la crème. He is one of the five percent of Boy Scouts who achieve the rank of Eagle. His ceremony was held on Saturday Nov. 17 with family and friends gathered to congratulate the high school senior.

Cousin Luke Pecinovsky of Grand Meadow was honored to light each candle signifying Roberts’ journey through the ranks. The Eagle Scout told the crowd, “Twelve years ago I started scouts as a Tiger Cub, then I became a Bobcat, Wolf, Bear and WeBeLoS.” He crossed over to Boy Scout in 2006; achieved Tenderfoot that same year; earned First Class and Second Class in 2007; his Star in 2009; and Life and Eagle in 2012.

He shared a few memories of scouting including being placed in the back of squad car and having his fingerprints taken for a trip and seeing Tunnel Rat during a Cub Scout meeting.

Roberts was lucky to have his dad, Tony, with him on most of his journey as Tony has been Asst. Scoutmaster with Mike Johnson being Scoutmaster.

He concluded his program by saying, “Today, my Eagle Scout Project and paperwork is done, but my time as a Scout will never be done, for I will always be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.

“Every single one of you here today had some form of an impact on my scouting—wheather it was encouragement, donation of money or just saying ‘Keep it up.’ I would like to thank you again for coming and celebrating with me this very special day.”
