Youth Chime Choir

This group of kids is amazing. They don’t get school credit for performing. They don’t get paid. They just get the satisfaction of a job well done. Under the direction of Kim Kitchen, the youth practice once a week and showed off their talents at Christmas in Lime Springs. Members include, front: Amiah DeWolf, Kyleigh Boehmer, Kristen Kuhl and Harry Kitchen. Middle: Kolby Forino and Jarret Rice. Back: Taylor Rice, Zach Dietz, Brandy Rice, Alisha DeWolf and Lyanne Wells. Missing: Makayla Gates.

Oneota gives out grants

Oneota Club representative Jeanette Burns presented checks to three Lime Springs organizations during Christmas in Lime Springs on Dec. 2. She explained the group was sorry it could only award three grants, even though there were 11 applications.

Since 2006, the Oneota Study Club has held Dad’s Belgian Waffle Breakfast during Sweet Corn Days. The profits have been given back to the community. This year, the group exceeded the $6,000 mark in donations!

The recipients for 2012 were:

• Lidtke Mill Historical Site—$500 to assist with the purchase of support beams;

• Lime Springs Public Library—$250 to assist with computer software updates; and

Mennonite singers, Dec. 9

The congregation of the Lime Springs Mennonite Church is inviting the public to a Christmas festival of singing and fellowship. Th second annual event is being held at the church on Sunday, Dec. 9. Various groups will sing from 3:00-4:00. There is a time of refreshments and fellowship from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

FFA invests in LS Beef business

Howard-Winneshiek School Board allowed Crestwood FFA to invest $20,000 of its money in Lime Springs Beef. Superintendent John Carver said it was a great opportunity for FFA at the Nov. 26 board meeting. “We could have representatives of FFA on the board of a $22 million company. This will give the FFA club real-world experience.”

He explained FFA had about $90,000 in savings from land the group sold 11-12 years ago. FFA wants to use $20,000 of that money to invest in the start-up business.
