One of those odd celebrations days is coming up on Friday, Jan. 18. Winnie the Pooh Day is held each year on the anniversary of A.A. Milne’s 1882 birth. He is the author who created Pooh, Christopher Robin, Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet, Kanga, Roo and Owl.

While the rest of the world celebrates Pooh just one day, April Cheeseman of Lime Springs celebrates Pooh and friends every day of the year! She has Pooh blankets, Pooh books, Pooh toys, Pooh back packs, a Pooh Christmas stocking, a Pooh toy box, Pooh banks, Pooh clocks and a Pooh Kleenex holder.

She has Poohs who sing, talk, dance and wiggle. She has snow globe Poohs and stuffed Poohs—75 at last count. She has Pooh shirts and Pooh earrings. She has regular Poohs, a Jewish Pooh and a Japanese Pooh. She even has a Pooh lunch box she sometimes uses as a purse.

Winnie the Pooh accompanies her to work each day as a large version of the childhood bear is seat belted in the backseat of her car.

Now, that’s a lot of Pooh! But it doesn’t include any of Pooh’s friends, which is a whole different collection of stuffed animals and other items.

Yes, Cheeseman likes Pooh. She explained, “Pooh is really Edward the Bear. He’s not too smart. He has a good heart. He’s got weird friends. And, he likes to eat. You can’t go wrong with that!”

“I started the collection in 1975. Then I went in the military. I left them with my sister.” Somehow they got “lost.” She started her collection again a few years ago.

Cheeseman doesn’t spend a lot of money on Pooh items. She gets most of them at Good Will, garage sales or as presents from friends and family—even her sister! She is happy to talk about her collection. It’s not a “bother.” Just ask!
