It seems lately when the television media is visiting a school it is for a tragedy or some other less desireable reason. Well that wasn’t the case on Friday, Jan. 25 when KIMT-TV 3 visited Lime Springs-Chester Elementary.

Something good was happening and that something good had to do with cold hard cash!

Fourth-fifth grade teacher Dory Fravel was awarded a grant for $300 toward flash drives for the class. For those unfamiliar, a flash drive is a removable storage device for computers. It is about the size of a tube of lip balm and holds tons of information.

Giving Your Best and Tools for Schools awards $300 grants every month to a deserving project that is above and beyond what the school budget allows. Co-sponsors of the grant are KIMT, First Citizens Bank of Northeast Iowa (with representatives from the New Hampton bank) and Diamond Joe Casino.

First Citizens, which has partnered with Tools for Schools for 10 years, sent representatives from the New Hampton branch, Susie Anderson and Jill Fibikar.

Other special guests were Denise Shekleton’s class at Elma and Cresco fifth grade teacher Kelly Sorenson’s class, which came in via video stream (ooVoo) from their field trip at UNI.

Folks can catch the kids periodically on KIMT-TV (Channel 3) for the next month leading up to their debut in late February or March. Or a person can look for them online at KIMT.com, go under home, click on specials and then Tools for Schools for more information.
