Chester PO’s reduced hours start April 6 —Lime Springs to start May 4

By Marcie Klomp

Starting Saturday, April 6, Chester Post Office will have reduced hours. Window hours will be 2:00-4:00 Monday through Friday and 2:00-3:45 on Saturday. Carl Haayer will be Postmaster Relief (PMR). He said mail should be out by 3:00 p.m.

Lime Springs’ reduced hours will start Saturday, May 4. Window hours will be 8:00-noon, Monday through Friday. The window has not been open on Saturdays in the past and will continue to stay closed.

To compensate for the inconvenience of closing six and four hours a day, the lobby will be open 24 hours a day starting April 6 in Chester and May 4 in Lime Springs.

Soon to be PMR for Lime Springs, Dolly Hovey reminds customers that mail going out should be left in the blue mail boxes outside before 4:00 p.m. to be picked up. If mail is left in the inside tray after noon, it will not be sorted until the next day.

Those with packages will be given keys and can pick them up from locked boxes inside the 24-hour post office at any time.

Mary Stivers, besides Cresco, will be Postmaster of Chester and Lime Springs, along with Ridgeway and Protivin. Those towns were already switched to fewer hours in February. Ridgeway is open from 8:30-12:30 and Protivin from 9:00-1:00. Stivers is not in charge of Elma, which has hours of 8:00-noon and 12:30-2:30.

The new system will take getting used to, but at least our local small towns still have their post offices . . . for now
