New LS PO hours start May 4

The Postal Service has concluded the POST Plan review process for the Lime Springs Post Office. Customer survey responses, input from the community meeting and the operational needs of the Postal Service were considered in reaching the implementation decision.

It has been determined that effective May 4, 2013, the Lime Springs Post Office will provide four hours of window service each weekday. The facility retail hours will be from 7:30-11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.

The upside of this change is the lobby will be open 24-hours a day, meaning customers can access their boxes at all hours. The downside obviously is losing the window service in the afternoons.

Chester has had its reduced hours since April 6. Carl Haayer is in the office from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

In other Postal Service news, the USPO has decided to continue with Saturday deliver. A recommendation had been to stop Saturday service to save money.

The Board of Governors of the United States Postal Service has decided that Congress, by including restrictive language in the Continuing Resolution, has prohibited implementation of a new national delivery schedule for mail and packages, which would consist of package delivery Monday through Saturday and mail delivery Monday through Friday, which would have taken effect the week of Aug. 5, 2013.

That does not mean the issue is dead—only postponed.
