Summer filled with fun

By Marcie Klomp

The Lime Springs Community Club has started making plans for all the summer activities members take part in. These include Omelet Breakfast taking place this weekend, Mother’s Day Salad Luncheon, Farmers Market, City-Wide Garage Sales and, of course, Sweet Corn Days.

• The first event is the Omelet Breakfast, which is a benefit for Lime Springs Pool. The Community Club works in conjunction with Boy Scouts. Workers are needed for the kitchen.

• The Mother’s Day Salad Luncheon will be held May 11. Salads and workers are needed. Russ and Joanie Betsinger, former business owners in Lime Springs, will give a program on their trip to Russia. They also offered to supply a Russian dessert!

• City-Wide Garage Sales will be held on June 1, the same day as Lidtke Mill’s Buckwheat Pancake benefit.

• Bernard Roesler agreed to be the contact person for the Lime Springs Farmers Market again.

• The biggest event is obviously Sweet Corn Days, which is organized year after year by the Community Club. Anyone wishing to have a booth or event should contact a board member for more information.

The Club usually tries to find something new each year, but nothing has cropped up yet, so most everything will be the same as in years past. Scheduled events include the Steve Kraft Softball Tournament, food and beverages, vendors, street dance, tractor pull, pedal pull, car show, Bean Bag Tournament, barbecue contest, Bingo, Ecumenical Church, parade and more.

In other business, it was reported the Easter Egg Hunt went well, with a change of venue taking place because of weather. Instead of Brown Park, the event was held in the school gym.

The Community Sign Committee are writing grants and making plans for putting the sign up this summer.

Lisa Smith agreed to help the club with finding flowers for the ground planters as she has done in the past.

During the Junior Club’s report, it was announced Duane Copeman donated $1,000 for a bronze statue. He is letting the kids choose the statue and come up with the rest of the cost if they want.

The Junior Club was also preparing for the flag project.

The next meeting of the Community Club will be May 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Community Center. The club welcomes any and all new members.
