Fun Run/Walk new for OS Day

Some folks don’t like change, but many times that change is for the better. Chester’s Partners in Progress group is modifying the schedule of events for Old Settlers’ Day.

President Brooke Cray is hoping to get young, old and in between off to a fresh start on June 8 with a 4.3 mile fun run/walk that begins at 10:00 a.m. at Hayden Prairie and ends at Chester Fire Station.

Folks can start signing up NOW by going to The fee is $20.00 and includes an event T-shirt and a goodie bag. The fee is good up until June 7. Signing up the day of the race will cost $25.00.

The registration booth opens at 9:00-9:45. Rides will be available to take participants to the start line at Hayden Prairie. The starting gun will go off at 10:00 a.m. sharp! There will be a water station between the start and finish lines.

A souvenir button is being sold to help raise funds for community projects. It’s a great deal as the $5.00 button will get the kids into the carnival for the entire day, allow the wearer to vote in the Barbecue Contest for free and get free admission to the Saturday night dance!

Next to the addition of the Fun Run/Walk, the other tried and true events, such as tractor pull, flea market with food vendors, firemen’s brat stand, kids’ carnival and barbecue competition will all begin at 10:00, also.

Tim’s Mobile Music will provide music and announcements throughout the day at City Park, where most of the activities are taking place.

The afternoon will feature the kids’ pedal pull, ice cream social (being served by Cray Insurance in celebration of its 100th year in business), grand parade at 3:00 (with Horse Apple Raffle sponsored by Saddle Club), Firemen’s supper featuring pulled pork sandwiches and live music by Luke n’ Bob Texas.

The nice part about Old Settlers’ Day is that it is such a family-oriented festival. There is something for kids and adults to do all day long. Mark June 8 on your calendar for a family fun day.
