n six months, the ready-mix business in Lime Springs has changed hands three times. Balk Lime & Ready-Mix had been in business for 75 years in Cresco, with a plant in Lime Springs since 1983. The entire business was sold to Skyline Materials, a subsidiary of Bruening Rock Products of Decorah on Feb. 1, 2013. The ready-mix part of the business changed hands again on July 6, when it was purchased by Croell Redi-Mix of New Hampton.

The rock business is still being run out of the old Balk office in Cresco. Croell also sells rock and other aggregates through its 75-80 satellite plants around northeast Iowa and southeast Minnesota. Local plants are at Cresco, Elma, Spring Valley and Decorah.

President of the company Kurt Croell said the business willbe unchanged and folks can expect the same great customer service. The company has concrete and asphalt products.

Croell said, “We’ve wanted to be in Lime Springs and Cresco for a long time. We are looking forward to doing business with the people of Lime Springs and Cresco.”
