Accident on Saturday morning

An accident Saturday morning, Aug. 17, at 1:25 a.m. sent four individuals to the hospital.

A 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, driving by Zachary Taylor, 21, of Spring Valley was southbound on Highway 63 near 10th St. near Chester. The vehicle went onto the shoulder and the driver overcompensated, entering the opposite ditch, striking multiple trees.

Passengers included Matthew Scrabeck, 27, of Grand Meadow; Amy Horsman, 26, of Spring Valley; and Autumn Horsman, 23, no address given.

The driver and all three passengers were wearing their safety belts. Chester Fire Department had to extricate victims.

Assisting at the scene were Iowa State Patrol, Chester Fire Department, LeRoy Fire Department, LeRoy Ambulance, Mayo 1 and another helicopter from LaCrosse. Two ambulances (West Union and Gold Cross of Rochester) were returning to their respective bases after dropping patients off at area hospitals and stopped to aid those at the scene.

Charges are pending, and the accident is still under investigation by Iowa State Patrol.
