Every school year things change—students get a year older and move up a grade, teachers get a year older and buildings get a year older. Everything and everyone changes. Students returned to classes at Howard-Winneshiek schools on Aug. 22 and saw a few of those changes.

At Lime Springs-Chester they included grade structure. Last year, only two grades shared a teacher—fourth and fifth. This year first and second are also sharing.

But the biggest and most anticipated change in the district is that every student has a digital device to use. The elementary students have iPads while students in grades 7-12 have MacBook Airs.

One thing that doesn’t change is the quality education students receive at How-Winn. Staff for 2013-14 include:

Principal PK-first: Mrs. Shirley Sovereign

Principal second-sixth: Mr. Greg Adams (new to district)

Preschool: Mrs. Shari Marr

Kindergarten: Mrs. Lois Leifeld

First/second: Mrs. Jennifer Hemann

Third: Mrs. Melissa Adams

Fourth/fifth: Mrs. Dory Fravel

Title 1 reading: Mrs. Jan Cray

Special Education: Mr. Gerald Mihm

Physical Education: Mr. Oakleigh Natvig

Librarian: Mrs. Denise Shekleton (former Elma teacher) and Mrs. Marge Dohlman

Art: Mrs. Rachelle Bramun (new to district)

Music: Mrs. Barb Holstrom

Look for more on the staff in future issues.
