Tom Smith, age 56, of Cresco, Iowa died Wednesday Sept. 4, 2013 at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.
Tom was born June 8, 1957 in Rockford, Ill., the son of Harold A. and Leona (Bentley) Smith. He grew up in the Bluffton area and attended North Winneshiek School.
His working career started with his own business that he operated for many years, Smith Fencing, constructing fences of high tensile and barb wire. For many years he worked for Featherlite as a Luxury Coach driver. He and his family operated S & S Explosion, a DJ service. Most recently he worked at Cresco Food Technologies as a machine operator.
Tom was an ‘outdoor’ person, enjoying camping, watching fireworks and especially deer hunting with a muzzle loader or bow-hunting.
Tom is survived by his wife, Notie Smith of Cresco; two children, Jada Hanson (fiancé Adam Stordahl) of Ramsey, Minn. and Dan Smith (fiancée Lindsay Davis) of Cresco; six grandchildren, Torey Clark, Ty Sobolik, Alex Hanson, Bryce Hanson, Gabrielle Green and Jaxon Davis; three siblings, Kenny (Myrna) Huckins of California and Bill Huckins and Sandy Huckins, both of Mt. Moris, Ill.
Tom is also survived by Jasper, Trouble and Buddy, his beloved feline companions.
Funeral services were held Sept. 9, 2013 at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco with burial in Bluffton Cemetery.
