Wine, food and friends. That’s what greeted those who attended the Fourth Annual Spring Ahead Learning Center (SALC) Winter Gala on Feb. 1.

The candlelit prime rib dinner was served by the crew of Heritage Events Center at the Lime Springs Community Center.

The auction following the meal is the largest fund-raiser sponsored by the learning center, and all proceeds go toward expenses.

This year, one of the organizers, Libby Schwade, confirmed, “The total raised at the auction, with the items and other donations, is $10,215!”

All items on the auction were donated, along with Burke Real Estate & Auction Service’s talents. Those helping were Steven and Calee Burke, Brad and Jen Burke and Fran Burke.

With a little badgering, Steven was able to get $1,000 for a half-hog donated by A&K. The other half went for $800, which was donated by Johnson Farms. Another big sale was a coffee quilt, donated by Scott and Stephanie Thomson. That went for $900. Thomsons also donated a party pillowcase, Sesame Street wrap and a purple passion print.

Other items donated were a table runner and schoolhouse wall hanging by Thursday Hookers; a Cadet shirt by Craft & Chaos/Brittany Chipera; a Clint Farlinger print with frame donated by Jim and Kim Kitchen; framed chalkboard by Scott and Sandy Sullivan; holiday wind chimes by Burkes; hooded towel and swim cover-up by Crafty Striped Giraffe/Carrie Leff; hydrangea quilt by Kathy Tesmer; necklace and earring set by Pindora Creations/Marcia Bannister; two pair of Orthaheel shoes by Wemark Chiropractic/Sheila Wemark; photo session by Blue House Studio/Tanya Riehle; pool basket by Jay and Jeanette Burns; sterling silver necklace by Holstroms and Dean and Libby Schwade; The Smokehouse print by Dave and Ruthie Fritcher; a flat-screen television by anonymous; Twins package by C US Bank; Valentine wall hanging by Kathryn Payne; weekender bag by Kaye Reis; and a quilters basket by Barb and Jerry Robinson.
