--kraftCharles “Charlie” Kraft, 60, of Cresco, Iowa died Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, Iowa with his wife and children by his side.

Charles Walter Kraft was born Feb. 5, 1954 the son of Leo and Zoan (Richardson) Kraft in Lake City, Iowa. Charlie was confirmed in the Saratoga Presbyterian Church, graduated from Crestwood High School and attended Calmar College, receiving his degree in Welding Machinery. He worked for Svestka’s Welding/Fenco Welding for 32 years.

--obit-buchananEleanor Venita (Kitchen) Buchanan, 97, passed away at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Cresco Care Center in Cresco, Iowa. She was born Feb. 14, 1917, in Lime Springs, Iowa, the daughter of the late Elmer and Edna Kitchen. She married Arthur (Jack) Buchanan on Nov. 1, 1938, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1958.

She attended the Lime Springs schools and graduated from Mankato College, Mankato, Minn. She and Jack moved to Southern Illinois in 1939, where she began her career as receptionist/secretary/Girl Friday of Wood River Printing, which at the time published the Wood River Journal. She was an active proponent of the equal rights movement. Continue reading

Arnold Kimball, 86, California

--obit-kimballArnold (Bud) Kimball, age 86 of Nuevo, Calif. died on Feb. 27, 2014. Bud was born on Feb. 16, 1928 and grew up in Maine, leaving home to join the Army Aircorp where he served in WWII. Upon returning from the war, he began hauling freight cross country.

Bud met and married Geralda Murphy on Aug. 5, 1950. After living in Lime Springs, Iowa and Winter Haven, Fla,, they settled in Rochester, Minn., where they began their family, raising two children, Robert and Sandra. They moved to Costa Mesa, Calif. in 1980, where Bud and his son Bob started Kimball Equipment, sales and repair of heavy equipment.

Attorney Mark Anderson and husband Randy Anderson, representing Renae Anderson, asked Lime Springs Council to be reimbursed for a tow fee of $106.88 given to her after a vehicle was left in the street during snow removal, at the latest meeting on March 4.

Renae Anderson owns some transit vehicles and they were left on the street, making snow removal difficult. She was given a warning and the vehicle was towed after the next snowstorm, after neighbors signed a complaint letter.
