A “plunging” mania has hit the area! It started as an awareness/fund-raiser for Landon, a six-month-old baby from Missouri with cancer. Then it morphed!

You know that old adage, “If your friends jumped off a bridge, would you jump too?” Well that’s what happened with this plunge. Friends challenged friends to jump in lakes, rivers and water tanks, videotaped it and posted it on Facebook. It worked. Word got out about baby Landon.
Then some locals decided, why not do it for Lime Springs’ own Madison Rahlf, 14, who has battled Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia since she was diagnosed on July 10, 2013?

Madison’s mom, Tina said she appreciates everything everyone has done to support Madison. “Amber Balvanz, Arielle Engelhart and Steph Fisher were great to officially get this plunge started. We have wonderful friends.”

Then Vernon Springs, Lidtke Mill and other places were inundated with teens and adults plunging for Madison. Videos with words of encouragement for Madison and the plunges themselves can be viewed on the Facebook page “Plunges for Madison.”

The average person will dunk themselves in the water and then challenge friends to do the same for a donation.
This fund-raiser comes after a blow to the family after finding the safe containing previous donations was stolen a few weeks ago.

Currently Madison is in remission, but will continue to receive chemo until the fall of 2015. People don’t have to take the plunge to donate. Donations can be sent to 315 N. Miller Street, Lime Springs, IA 52155.
