Pool will open June 4

The Lime Springs Swimming Pool will be opening June 4, the day after school lets out for the summer.

Besides allowing guards and students time to study for those semester tests, it will also allow the board to finish up on a few of its projects it has tackled this spring, including sandblasting and painting the deep end, getting the filter fixed and purchasing a new vacuum. The guards have been good sports in the past, but there is only so much duct tape can fix!

One thing that is desperately needed is donations. “The board appreciates all the donations we have received, but we need more to get the money to paint the bottom. We were hoping on a $6,000 grant which fell through,” commented board chairman, Marcie Klomp.

“Looking back through old newspapers, I have found the pool has never run in the black. The City has always been there to bail us out. With major upcoming expenses associated with the sewer and water systems, that money may not be there,” she added.

Some of our locals have gone on to bigger and better things, but it is hoped they remember the fun they had splashing and playing at the pool.

Donations can be sent to LS Pool, P.O. Box 296, Lime Springs, IA 52155.

Upcoming work days

Not everyone can afford to open their checkbooks to help get the pool and parks ready for the summer. Those who are able, or kids who want Silver Cord hours, can always invest some sweat equity in their town. The next few Saturdays and maybe Sundays will be a good time to help.

May 3, 10 a.m.: Clean up and paint at Brown Park.

May 10, 10 a.m.: Install two benches at Brown Park and possibly paint bottom of pool.

May 17-18, 10 a.m.: Tear out and revamp Kitchen Park and possibly paint bottom of pool.
