“Just a year ago, I was standing up here . . . waiting,” said 2013 Howard County Fair Queen Rachel Stika. She told the audience how much fun she had over the past year representing Howard County.

“I got to be at all the shows and hand our ribbons and trophies. I wouldn’t trade it for anything! It was an amazing year for me.”

Stika also had fun attending all six local parades and the Iowa State Fair. “I kept being asked why we call it ‘The Mighty Howard County Fair.’ I now know the reason. It is because of the people who care and volunteer. It is they who make it ‘mighty.’”
Each year, Tom Barnes, Executive Secretary, gives the queen candidates one last hard question . . . “What is your favorite part of the fair?”

One of Stika’s favorite parts is the malts! She is not alone. The Moo Mobile is a traditional stop for many fair goers.
Emi Frohn enjoys looking at all the creative and fun exhibits in the 4-H building.

Abby Huhe likes to show sheep and see the exhibits.
Abby Kennon also enjoys showing animals, showing projects, funnel cakes and pretty much all the fair food!
Natalie Knobloch likes to show livestock and watch the shows in the grand stand.

Kaytlan Langreck is proud to show livestock because she works hard all year long. She also likes the shows on Friday and Saturday nights.

In the end Langreck was crowned queen, with junior Frohn as runner-up, who was also Miss Congeniality. That honor is voted on by the other queen candidates.
