ATV ride coming through LS

A unique new ride will rumble in to Northeast Iowa this August. The North Iowa ATV-UTV Ride will feature ATV and UTV vehicles in what will be a two-day parade of the all purpose vehicles. The ride will take place in Howard and Winneshiek Counties on Aug. 15-16.

The ride is a cooperative effort of three north Iowa radio stations, including 98.7 KISS Country in Mason City, 95.9 KCHA-FM in Charles City and 95.1 KCZE-FM “The Bull” in New Hampton.

The 2014 North Iowa ATV / UTV Ride will kick off on Thursday, Aug. 14 with rider registration at the Mighty Howard County Fairgrounds in Cresco. Over 100 ATV/UTV’s are expected to participate in this first of its kind event.

“We don’t know of any other event like this in the state of Iowa,” said organizer Jamie Nelson of North Iowa Broadcasting. “There are clubs around the state that do rides like this, but I haven’t heard of any large-scale ride involving riders from all over Iowa.”

Friday riders will travel the scenic back roads from Cresco to Bluffton, to the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds in Decorah for lunch, Calmar and back to Cresco.

On Saturday, Aug. 16, the riders will go from Cresco to Elma (for a morning break), Riceville (for lunch), Lime Springs (for an afternoon snack at Brown Park) and back to Cresco.

The five entities of Lime Springs (Community Center, Fire Department, Library, Pool and Parks) are planning to sell snacks for the riders.

Along the way they will visit some of the most scenic portions of Iowa, and will ride through other towns including Spillville, Kendallville and Ridgeway. Much of the ride will be along the Iowa and Wapsipinicon Rivers.

The ride is modeled after the successful North Iowa Tractor Ride, which features nearly 150, mostly antique tractors, on a two-day ride around the Iowa countryside.

The ATV/UTV ride will allow those with similar interests and vehicles to spend time together seeing a very scenic part of Iowa while enjoying the sport of ATV / UTV riding.

Riders can register (there is a fee) along with a group and ride together, or will be placed in the ride with others. To register, visit: http://987kisscountry.com/.
