Looking for clues

--fire-2Howard County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the fire that took place in Chester in the early morning hours of July 11. On July 16, the members of the fire department were sifting through the rubble to see if they could find any clues as to the origin of the fire. Officer Rich Hollenbeck explained, “Fire destroys evidence that will prove or disprove arson.” That doesn’t stop law enforcement officials from their investigation.

The fire was called in by a passing trucker at 4:32 a.m., and by 4:50 the house had already caved in. After learning of the fire, several residents of Chester remember hearing a motorcycle roaring out of town between one-half and one hour before that time. It is not known if it is related to the suspected fire or not.
