Three tours were given at LimeSprings Beef on Sweet Corn Saturday, Aug. 9.

Construction Manager Brad Lodge gave the tour, taking the groups from the unloading area to the loading dock. Although the floor looked unfinished in the unload area, Lodge assured everyone it was done to specifications. The rough floor will give the cattle better footing as they are herded to the kill area.

All parts of the animal will be used or sold, including hide, head and insides. The animals will be weighed four times throughout the butchering process. The carcass will be spray chilled with a mess overnight to help prevent weight loss.

Members of the group were able to ask questions. Many were curious when the plant would open—close to the first of December, how many employees would initially be hired—50-60, and when hiring would take place—probably November.

More information on the plant will be coming in the near future as things are starting to move forward quickly.
