LSFD accepts Chester ALS challenge

--fd-hoseOn Thursday, Aug. 28, about half of Lime Springs Fire Department members met at the station to participate in the ALS Challenge. The group had been nominated by Chester Fire & Rescue, who did it the day before and posted it on Facebook. Chester also challenged Elma Fire Department and LeRoy Ambulance. They had been challenged by LeRoy Fire.

Lime Springs in turn challenged Protivin, Elma and Cresco Fire Departments.
Fire Chief Nate Schwickerath poured ice into the grass rig tank earlier in the day to get the water nice and cold. His sons (Daniel and Kendall), along with veteran firefighter Tony Roberts, had the honor of hosing down the guys!

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease,” is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to death.
